Welcome
The Midtown Assistance Center (MAC) is a non-profit,
inter-faith organization whose mission is to provide emergency assistance
to the working poor of Midtown and Downtown Atlanta to prevent
homelessness and hunger during periods of crisis.
Since 1986, the Midtown Assistance Center, with
the support of donors and volunteers, has helped in approximately
80,000 emergency situations by providing men, women, and their children
with rent and utility assistance, groceries, work clothes, transportation
to employment and interviews, counseling and referrals to other
services.
We assist those who are:
- Employed but facing a temporary crisis such as sickness, temporary
cutback in hours or layoff
- Working but have not yet received a paycheck
- Completing job training and are not receiving public assistance
Support for the Midtown Assistance Center comes
from ten Atlanta congregations, who provide annual pledges, food
drives, volunteers and Board representatives. MAC has a strong relationship
with, and is also supported by, the Midtown Alliance and the local
business community. Since local congregations fund MAC's operational
costs, all additional donations go directly to client support.
We're helping people who
are trying to help themselves.
